What video editing software do you use?

When we first started vlogging with YouTube back in May 2018 we used iMovie to create our vlogs. We now use Final Cut Pro X because it offers a wider selection of features and gives us more choice on the production. It also means we can use 4K video footage. We also use additional software and apps such as Doodly and Keynote to generate creative titles and animations.

Do you have a background in media?

Colin began his media career at the early age of thirteen, volunteering at his local hospital radio station. His talents were soon noticed and he was offered a job in commercial radio aged just fifteen years old working as a producer and presenter. Prior to moving aboard narrowboat Silver Fox, he presented radio shows on Radio Aire, Dearne FM, Ridings FM, Rother FM and most recently, hosted the DriveTime afternoon show on Trax FM. Radio has always been his greatest love. Colin is also an established writer with experience writing for newspapers and articles for Waterways World magazine. Due to the severity of his anxiety and depression, made worse by his autism and ADHD employment is really tough for him to cope with which is why life afloat is benefitting his mental health. How can I support the Foxes?

With no support from the NHS, and no local funding for adults with Autism, we had to find a way to improve Colin's debilitating mental health. Autism and ADHD cause him increasingly severe meltdowns, chronic anxiety, and depression. Numerous attempts at medication failed to have any positive effects, and private therpy was simply out of our budget. Our decision to move onto a boat meant that we lost our careers, but it was an opportunity for Colin to rebuild his life, re-establish his confidence, bring back the smile that suits him so well. His creativity is now bursting out through the vlogs he spends so many hours producing, and his love of life is returning. You can help to support us in a number of ways. Become a Patreon

Where do you get the music for your vlogs?

Some of our earlier vlogs used copyright-free music from YouTube's Audio Library. Our newer vlogs mostly use music from independent artists through epidemicsound.com.

Who built your narrowboat?

Our narrowboat shell was fabricated by Aintree Boats in Liverpool. The fit-out was desgined and completed by the Bickerstaffe Boat Company in West Lancashire. You can see the whole process in our series of vlogs on Youtube. Click Here to watch from the beginning.

Where did you get the thermal cooker from?

We got the thermal cooker from Mr D's Cookware.
The one we have on Silver Fox is the 3 litre.
Click here to see it on their website.

What happened to your kayak?

When we were at Westport Lake near the Harecastle Tunnel there was a bit of a faff. Someone, and I'm not naming names, broke our video camera and we were left without means of filming our vlogs. We live to a very tight budget and made the decision to sell the kayak to pay for a replacement video camera which we still have today.

What do the tattoos on Colin's arms say?

The tattoo on my left arm is a mantra my therapist gave me. It says; "If I fall I will get up. If I'm beaten I will return. I will never stop getting better. I will never give up. That's why I succeed". It defines my determination to fight the depression and anxiety that constantly try to defeat me, and gives me the motivation to carry on when I want to give up. The tattoo on my right arm is a lyric from the Pet Shop Boys song 'Being Boring'. "I never dreamt that I would get to be the creature that I always meant to be". I got this one because that line always stood out as a younger man when I felt so out of touch with the world around me. I hoped that one day I'd feel more comfortable in the world, in my own skin, and become who I was suposed to be.

Which composting toilet did you install?

We bought the Compoost 12V Self-Stirring Toilet. Click Here to see it on their website.

How can I watch all your vlogs in order from the beginning?

Easy! We have a playlist with all our episodes in order from the beginning. Click here to watch the whole story from day one.

Does Colin really live without clothes?

Yes. I've been a naturist since I can remember. There's something about being clothes-free that makes my anxieties disappear and calms me. I'm also very interested in life-art and naked photography. If you'd like to learn more about my nude artwork and photography, and maybe learn a little more about naturism, Contact Me and I'll send you a link to my Patreon site.

Can I use your YouTube content in my video or website?

Unfortunately, no. All of our material on YouTube, and on our website, is protected under copyright. If any of our videos, whether just a few seconds or the whole video, are published anywhere without our prior written consent, action will be taken in order to remove it.

What's the thing you use to protect your mattress from damp?

We use a product called Dry-Mat. It keeps your bed, divan, bunk bed clean, dry, and prevents moisture and condensation under your mattress, stopping bacteria and mildew from forming. We bough ours from Amazon. Click Here to view it on the UK site.
